AboutAFTERLIFE is a progressive/alternative rock band originally from Carrollton, GA in the USA. AFTERLIFE was formed in January of 1986.

The band is comprised of three members:
Mike Hudson - Guitars, Keyboards, Violin and Vocals.
Jonathan Dorsey - Basses, Mandolin, Vocals.
Warren Davis - Drums and Assorted Percussion.

Mike and Warren played together previously in a band called THE END with another musician, but that band came to an abrupt ending. In the process of trying to find suitable musicians to perform with, they met Jonathan. Originally Jonathan was going to be a second guitarist, but out of necessity he decided to switch to bass, and found he was a natural born bass player. Both Mike and Jonathan were songwriters and it was only natural that they all formed a band. Several months after starting on bass, AFTERLIFE found themselves in a recording studio for the first time recording several songs that would initially be an EP called "Three-Way Mirror", but a year later would wind up becoming side 2 of their first album, "The Frozen Sun". This album was recorded at Threshold Audio Productions/Jobson Audio Lab (which was a studio ran by a local musician/engineer/producer). All subsequent albums would later be recorded in Mike's personal studio called Clockwork.

AFTERLIFE has 5 albums to their credit:

"The Frozen Sun", released in 1988.
"The Awakening", released in 1990.
"Curtain Call", released in 1991.
"Compass Rose", released in 2013.
"Brave New World", released in 2016.

AFTERLIFE began in the late 80's as an originals band who also did some cover songs in the live shows, but into the 90's played exclusively original music. The band performed primarily in the Atlanta, GA area, and other parts of Georgia, but also played in other southeastern states such as Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina.

The band received a lot of airplay on various college stations and were also regulars on "The Peach Jam" show, which was a local artist show on the commercial station 96 Rock (WKLS 96.1FM) in Atlanta, Ga. Some of the songs were also played on 96 Rock's affiliate station in Columbus, Ga.

AFTERLIFE was also one of the featured acts in the first "New South Music Showcase", and were one of four bands featured at Club Rio in Atlanta.

In the summer of 1991, AFTERLIFE decided to take a break and in the process wound up basically disbanding...but in 2011, the band reformed to begin a brand new recording project which yielded the album "Compass Rose" which was released on April 1, 2013.

"Compass Rose" features 13 brand new original AFTERLIFE compositions reflecting a wide range of rock styles and genres. This album is available in a number of brick and mortar record shops, music stores and even a few other locations. The CD is also available for purchase online at CD-Baby and Amazon. And digital downloads of the album are available at both of those plus iTunes, Nimbit, Rhapshody and many other digital download sites.

In 2014, AFTERLIFE made their first three albums ("The Frozen Sun", "The Awakening", and "Curtain Call") once again available, but this time on CD-R format in thin jewel cases. They are manufactured directly by the band themselves and available only online via eBay, or select local music outlets.

In January 2014, AFTERLIFE re-entered the studio to begin working on a new album. A number of setbacks delayed the recording process, and then later the art and design, but on December 12, 2016, the band's 5th album "Brave New World" was released to the public. "Brave New World" contains 16 new originals in the band's usual eclectic style. For the first time ever, AFTERLIFE used an outside designer (working closely with the band) for the cover art and packaging design. For the CD version, it was decided to do a Digipak.

"Brave New World" is available worldwide on both CD format and digital downloads from CD-Baby, iTunes, Amazon, and many other online sources, as well as a few select local music stores.

With the release of "Brave New World", AFTERLIFE also finally launched their official website:

Special Note:
Please be aware that there are a number of recording artists scattered about the world known as "Afterlife" or using the word "afterlife" as a part of their name. But the first band to our knowledge to use this name is the band described above, who formed on January 1st, 1986, as a partnership between Mike Hudson, Jonathan Dorsey and Warren Davis.

As of this date, I have discovered over 20 other bands in various parts of the globe with the same or similar name. The styles vary from electronic dance/lounge music, Industrial noise rock, Christian rock, Prog, Heavy Metal and Death Rock. There are also a couple of prog cover bands known as Afterlife, who perform cover versions of songs by bands like Genesis, Rush, Yes, etc.

AFTERLIFE has only released 5 albums to date (as of April 1, 2017). There was an EP released in 1987 called "Three-Way Mirror", but it is permanently out of print, as the 5 songs on that EP became side two of "The Frozen Sun" with the songs in a different order, therefore it is not listed in AFTERLIFE's discography.

Any other albums you see listed on this website or any other that are credited to anyone known as "Afterlife" is a different band than the one this profile is about. This is not to say that "this" AFTERLIFE won't have another album post 2017. The band is hoping to re-enter the studio, possibly sometime this year to begin work on their 6th album.

Please note the "other" albums listed currently on LetsSingIt that are credited to "Afterlife" are by a dance/lounge artist who's real name is Steve Miller, and we assume he adopted the name "Afterlife" to avoid confusion with the recording artists "The Steve Miller Band". But the albums by that "Afterlife" are not in any way or form related to AFTERLIFE who formed Jan. 1986 (Hudson/Dorsey/Davis).
