AboutPerfecting the harmony between Pop and R&B, Anoop Desai is best known for his time as a finalist on the eighth season of "American Idol." Combining classic southern charm with a soulful yet fresh appeal, Desai gained praise from "Idol" judges and fans around the globe. Having already made a notable impact on the music industry, Desai is now taking his music to another level with the release of his debut album All is Fair.

Born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Anoop was always fascinated by the arts. While attending Fuller Elementary School, Anoop took a number of different art and music classes and found himself specifically drawn to his chorus class. This first taste stayed with Anoop, and his passion for music and musical performance grew to transform his life. He took all he could from his surroundings, including a notable stint as the musical director and chief soloist of the UNC Clef Hangers, a nationally renowned a cappella group from UNC Chapel Hill. As part of this group, Anoop began to pursue music not only as his hobby and passion, but as his calling.

Motivated by the death of his friend Eve Carson, Anoop auditioned for the eighth season of the popular Fox TV show "American Idol" in 2008. Anoop shattered tradition and made pop culture history when he became the first ever 13th finalist on "American Idol." From first-generation Indian-American to "American Idol"—Anoop's journey typifies the American dream. Backed by a large fan base and favored to win by celebrities including Ellen DeGeneres and Keith Urban, fans agreed that Anoop left too soon with a sixth place finish.

After a 50-city tour, Anoop settled in Los Angeles to begin work on his debut album All is Fair. He teamed up with Grammy Nominated Producer/Engineer Ian Schreier (Gnarls Barkley, Velvet Revolver, Cash Money, Morrison Poe (Nile Rogers), Obie Trice, Big Pun, 9th Wonder, and Mystical), and co-wrote and produced a number of the tracks with his close friends, Josh Hoge, Zach Crowell, David Mikush, and Brandon Rogers ("American Idol").

The album is not only independent, but is characterized by a uniquely local flavor—as Anoop felt it was of the utmost importance to involve his community and friends in the process of writing, producing, performing, and promoting the project. It blends Pop, R&B, and Indian influences to create a sound all his own. Anoop had complete control over this EP; from writing to release, and the result is arguably one of the best Pop/R&B albums of 2010. The album debuted 14 on the pop iTunes Chart and is poised to climb even higher with the release of the title track, "All is Fair (CrazyLove)." Fans are going crazy over him already as they've been waiting eagerly for Anoop's original music. From upbeat pop songs you can't get out of your head, to soulful love songs that you can't help but listen to over and over, the album is sure to please fans across various music genres.

When this southern charmer isn't writing songs with his friends or listening to his favorite albums from idols BoyzIIMen and Michael Jackson, he is giving back to his community. Involved in the charity, Room to Read, Anoop is passionate about giving children a good education through this organization that builds libraries in third world counties. Anoop feels that his success started with his education, and never takes for granted the amazing opportunities he has been afforded. By attempting to help others reach these opportunities, he hopes to see others join him in achieving their dreams.
