AboutAtaf Khawaja's album "Paraderne Nede" ("Parads Down" on Danish) is an uncommon straight testimony from so-called "jerk-paki" who has been adult. In a time where music and especially the rap-scene tug the individual out and just in the frontest row in a rain of bling-bling, big cars, gangster-attitudes and fast lives with early endings, has the *Vanløse-rapper Ataf (says Ataf) sinked the parades and turned the look inside.

Where Al Pacino from Scarface failed, is it succeed 31-year Ataf to come out his jerk-life. He paid tribute is his young days and in the group called Kidnap who manifested themselves in the Danish undergroundrap. The lyrics was full of guns'n'drugs, they aren't anymore.

"I have tried it all. While I made this cd, have many asked me why I don't rap about those days. They wanna hear gangsta, and I can spit gangsta out like ain't no other Danish rappers. But when I turned 25, I lost the delight to rap. I thought it was ugly and vulgar, and then I got out."

After a longer time away from the music where Ataf used his time to calm down and reflect by the experiences who makes fertile soil for "Paraderne Nede", Ataf meat the producer team called "Providers" who has producet the album. Together they maked one day the the song called "Baduah" ("Curse" on Pakistani, "Forbandelse" on Danish). It hold all the way, and after that was there only one way to go.

"I sat down and asked myself: What is most important for me? Early it was to claim, we were gangstas, and it was because of that people loved me. Then I drove on an energy which said: Now I'm chocking the world, I'm showing them an other side of me."

Second song he wrote, was "Det' For Sent Nu" ("It's Late Now" on Danish). And that was a big step. The parads came completely down in the opening narrative about how he feels, when he thinks about being a second generation immigrant. But then has Ataf not maked himself into spokesman on the second generation immigrants' behalf. People must understand that it isn't us "second generation immigrant-pakis" - but against it Ataf's personally adventures.

Accurate as the second single "Sommerfugl" ("Butterfly" on Danish) which was "Ugens uundgåelige" ("Weeks inevitable" on Danish) on **P3 in December. The story about his mother and conflict in the home. It isn't a contribution in a debate about immigrant-women's conditions. But Ataf know that is will be understood like that. It's again an adventure from his life which can happen for everyone. Many immigrants will sure react on the lyrics, like many Danes will react, that's the intention. Ataf just hope that they don't generalize.

"I've been very conscious about to be straight, to give myself as much as human that people maybe totally forget I'm paki that they take the words and let them answer the questions. I've much respect for ***Kim Larsen. And I wanna be Kim Larsen, with Pakistani background. I really wanna be popular. But to be that, shall you be fuckin' straight."

Ataf want people to know that Danish rap is more than just hos, bitches and not at all gangstas. When the video to the first single "Bare En Thug" ("Just A Thug" on Danish) should be maked, were there many who meant he shall get the hard ghetto-image back. Make it to a scorn of the many wanna-be gangstas and plastic rockers, and not all the hymorous delivery of his hard life. But if you want into people in Denmark, you shall use irony, says Ataf, and when he wrote the lyrics, was he very much attentive to that it could be misunderstood. Not by other rappers, but the society.

"But I will never go so much to compromise, that I think 'This here can or shall I not write'. But when it comes to my past, crack and other shit, so I care about it. 'Cause I don't wanna be the one who do this. It's all about to be a little moralising and to tell about the past without a pointing finger gets to the air."
