Autour De Lucie has been founded in 1992 in France by singer Valérie Leulliot, guitarist Olivier Durand & bassist Fabrice Dumont. The band's current lineup is : Valérie Leulliot (guitar, melodica, organ & vocals), Sébastien Lafargue (bass, guitar, keyboards, programming & synthesizer) & Antoine Kerninon (drums).

Their debut album L'Échappée Belle has been released in 1994 & re-released 2 years later on Nettwerk & Le Village Vert. Songs were produced by either Paco Rodriguez, Michael Head or Autour De Lucie, & the album was characterized by guitar-driven songs with infectious pop hooks. It was led off by the buoyant, breezy "L'Accord Parfait" & included a cover of the ballad "Island", originally composed for the soundtrack of the British film "The Wicker Man".

Their second album Immobile, released in 1997, pursued the same sound established by their first effort. It was produced by Gilles Martin & Autour De Lucie, & included a few experimental instrumental tracks as well as the catchy, synth-driven "Chanson Sans Issue". A remix of their song was included as a bonus track & another remix appeared on the compilation Wallpaper*mach 1.5*The sound that surrounds you. With a new guitarist, Jean-Pierre Ensuque, the band got a nice success in the United States.

Though much of their subdued, languid third album Faux Mouvement, released in 2000, produced by Ian Caple & Autour De Lucie, continued to follow the same guitar-oriented sound, several songs on the album featured a greater integration of electronic elements, effects, and beats, including samples, distortions & loops. Consequently, several songs from Faux Mouvement were remixed by the likes of Radiostatic, Tarwater, Isolée, and others on their 2001 remix compilation Vu Par... The arranger & bassist, Fabrice Dumont, left the band in 2001 to be part of his second band Télépopmusik. Soon after, Frédéric Fortuny became the band's keyboardist.

Their fourth album Autour De Lucie, released in 2004, was produced by Stéphane "Alf" Briat (known for his work with the French electronic duet Air), & saw the band return to their original sound, with more sophisticated arrangements & less overt pop leanings. The album ranged from the introspective "Avril En Octobre" & piano ballad "Mon Toujours Partant" to the uptempo "Nos Vies Limitrophes" & included one English-language song, "Guiding Hands". They paused in 2005.

In 2007, singer Valérie Leulliot released her first solo album Caldeira, produced by her band's bassist Sébastien Lafargue & mixed by Stephan Kramer. One of her album's songs, "Mon Homme Blessé", has been written by Miossec.
