Ben has a way with words. Even though he's using such a simple vocabulary, this song pushes its way right up there with literary geniuses like William Shakespeare, William Butler Yeats, and Stephen King (jk, sort of) But seriously, he shoots straight to the heart with this song, nearly making me cry several of the times I've heard, and I'm a guy. The piano is gorgeous, everything else fits perfectly, and the mood of the song connects you to its content before you get a quarter of the way into it. This song gets nine thumbs up!

This tune is mega-EMO. Ben actually states on "Ben Folds Live" that this was a personal experience he had when he took his girlfriend to get an abortion. After hearing Ben's introduction, you just knew the song would hit you like a 'Brick', as he could only mention the subject matter, and if anyone had the same experience, then they would understand.

Kudo's to Ben to be able to perform that tune live without completly going EMO....I have several tunes I've written on deep personal subjects, that I be hard-pressed to perform live without completely losing it....and the performance was everything it should be on BFL. Even when he say's "Thanks" at the end of the performance, there are volumes unsaid.

The video's out there, and it compliments the song...check it out.

I have empathy for Ben and the unnamed girlfriend, as I known close friends whom lost their babies to a misscarriage. In the end, an abortion is the loss of one's child--one the couple will never get to know, and is overwheming---and worse because of the guilt involved.

Anyone even remotely thinking of an abortion needs to hear this tune--the live version of BFL to at least be aware of the sorrow involved before making such a decision.

without regards to who feels more pain or politics or some fool attempting to make someones art understandable to themselves...this song is raw emotion. it connects to people in their own ways. there is no right or wrong. its not to be forced and determined by one 'the right way' for the masses, like any artistic endeavor. to me its the loss of love by actions and choices. and yours may be different. just let it be

I believe this is the first song Ben Folds ever wrote, and it's certainly not a bad effort. An interesting premise, too.
