AboutSinger/songwriter Cristian Alexanda is set to become one of the hottest new acts on the urban music scene with his slammin' singles 'Misunderstood', 'Party Anthem' and the forthcoming album 'Cristyle' for the newly formed (LEGIT MUSIC/ILLUSIVE SOUNDS) label.
Raised in Perth, Cristian's early years were spent honing his craft by listening to classic R&B from the likes of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson who first provided him with the inspiration to create his own music.
"I tried to write a lot when I was younger but it wasn't really that good," he says with a laugh. "I hadn't really been through anything you know so as I got older I had more stuff to write about. The more I got fucked over the more I found I had something to say. I've been hurt before, I've been down so just having something like that to write about makes you feel something. Like anything it comes from experience."
A less than satisfying 3-year tenure with a major label provided him with plenty of "experiences" to draw from when creating his debut CD.
Determined not to follow those who chose (or were guided down) the road marked "pop" Cristian's album is work of a young man destined to make his in the world of urban music. At a time when the industry is dominated by corporate creations Cristian Alexanda is his own man creating the music he wants to create.
"This is something that Australian R&B should sound like," he says with conviction. "It's gotta be on an international level because you want other people to hear it and say, 'OK, cool'. I'm trying to show that this is what's coming out of Australia , listen to it and like it as well as the shit that's coming from your own home."
Featuring an international cast of urban legends who have worked their magic with some of the biggest names in R&B and hip-hop 'Cristyle' is set to establish Cristian Alexanda on the world stage. The Ignorants (Craig David, Mis-Teeq, K-Ci & JoJo et al), Blacksmith (who have produced or remixed everyone from Eric B & Rakim to Lemar), Passion (who worked on the debut album for African singer/songwriter Audius), Soul District's Revelino and newcomer Monius all feature heavily.
"The album's got a couple of ballads but it's more mid to uptempo type tracks that are full of my life. I love to make people dance so I had to have that." he laughs.
"It was an awesome experience. Any producer that takes the laid-back approach and lets you get creative on your own sound is fine with me," says the straight talking 22 year old when the producers' names are mentioned. "A lot of producers tried to do that previously and all of them I didn't do anything with for the album. Every producer brings their own flavour. They all bring their own certain styles and stuff but it's what you add to it that makes it different."
Having experienced the many highs and lows the music industry has to offer there's no denying the fact that Cristian Alexanda has well and truly served his apprenticeship. In recent times he's shared the stage alongside the likes of Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Obie Trice and Sean Paul and has received critical acclaim from press in England and throughout Asia
