AboutDef Manic isn't your average rapper in today's society. In his words: "I see the world at a different perspective then the average person who is too ignorant to see the things that occur around them. We all have a story to tell, and usually our stories are what leads us to do certain things, for me, it's being a rapper."

He was born in Belgrade, Serbia on the 2nd of May, 1993. This was a time that many people dreaded because it was when the break-up of Yugoslavia occurred. This separation of neighboring countries had sparked racial tension throughout the region and had resulted in a civil war occuring. This was quite a difficult time for many families because they had to come to grips on the fact that their country would be independent.

While these conflicts occured, the Government was the main focus of corruption and mafia influence. People died and suffered every day because of Government decisions. They were more focused on the war itself, then protecting their own citizens. "Many people, including my parents, had to fight for food and water because the scarcity of food increased and people were becoming desperate. There were usually huge line-ups once a week, where people usually fought for a loaf of bread that was to be rationed between the family for 1 week. This was the same case for milk and water, where families were restricted to 1 litre of it per week."

"Jobs that would be considered as 'highly payed jobs' in today's society, were the complete opposite in Serbia during this time. This was the case with my parents who had quite good jobs, yet were only given minimum wage. Corruption and murder had occured around me and my family for almost a decade but luckily we were granted a visa to transfer overseas because of the terrible living conditions at the time. We chose to move to Canada for a few years"

"It was quite difficult for us to fit in because of a number of reasons, a few being that we had difficulty in communicating with people around us because we did not know how to speak English. It was also difficult for my parents to find a good job because Canada did not accept degrees from countries like Serbia. You know how you always hear those stories about foreigners/ immigrants who arrive at a new country for new opportunites and only start with 5 dollars in their pockets? Well, it's true. This was the case with my parents. But people like us always have a stronger mentality to be successful and to make something out of nothing, which is what we pretty much did."

Def Manic says: "When you grow up in the way that me and my family did, you learn not to take things for granted and appreciate things to the fullest extent." These life experiences that he has gone through has had an impact on his rapping as he says: "As early as I could remember, I have always listened to Hip-Hop and Rap. Throughout all this time that I listened to this music, I noticed many similarities and differences between certain rappers. But what stood out for me the most were the rappers who were able to express themselves and weren't afraid to rap about things that concerned them. These are the rappers that influenced me the most and made me the sort of rapper I am today.
