AboutDonna Regina appeared on the German avant-pop scene in the beginning of the 1990s. The band consists of Regina Janssen on vocals, Gunter Janssen on guitars and Steffen Irlinger, the author of electronic sounds and samples, who joined the band while they were working on the music for the album "A Quiet Week in the House." Their music is best described as a puzzling mixture of warm, analogue songs with a hint of ethereal indie rock. Donna Regina's debut "Lazing Away" was released in 1992 and became especially popular in Japan, where one of the songs was used in an advertisement for Nissan and all the following singles were included on the playlists of most commercial radio stations. During the years 1993-1998 the band released the following albums: "Almaty" (1993), "Dream Pop" (single - 1994), "Her Beautiful Heart" (1995), "Jungle" (1996), "Follow the Sea" (1997) and "Planet Me" (1998). Donna gained popularity only in 1999, when the single "Pool" - promoting the forthcoming album "A Quiet Week in the House" - was released on the Cologne-based Karaoke-Kalk label. The follow-up EP "Star Ferry" came out in 2000. The group has then become known not only in Germany, but also across Europe. Andy Thoma, Jan Werner (a.k.a. MOUSE ON MARS) and Wolfgang Flur (ex-Kraftwerk) are among those who claim to be fascinated by Donna.

A Polish music journalist wrote about "A Quiet Week in the House:" "Immensely beautiful, charming and melancholic avant-pop music, permeated by healing female warmth emanating from the girl's voice of Regina Janssen, whose singing somewhat reminds of Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab. When Donna sings that 'everyone is a great shining star,' I believe her. Her small cosy house is truly magic and full of love. [Marcin Hubert, Machina). Donna's next album, "Northern Classic" (released in 2002), commanded considerable attention and is considered to be one of the best ones ever recorded by the band. While promoting "Northern Classic," Donna toured in Poland (11-14 IV). In September 2003 Karaoke Kalk released "Late" - another Donna's album, again full of warm, analogue sounds. In March 2004 "The Early Years," a compilation album that brought together the best songs from the first five CDs, was released on the Polish label Gusstaff Rec. The album consists of 15 songs, each briefly described by Regina and Günter on the cover. The cover features also a general commentary on the album by Steffen Irlinger. The band again toured in Poland (22-25 IV), promoting the compilation album.
