AboutEddy Lawrence was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but has lived most of his adult life in the Northeastern U.S. His songs cover a wide range of topics and styles, but he is best known for his witty and cutting lyrics and his prowess on guitar and other stringed instruments, with a style based broadly in the American roots tradition.
Eddy has also been active in contemporary Native American music, releasing Going to Water, an examination of Native themes, in 2001. During the following ten years Eddy produced, recorded and performed with many Native artists and engineered several award winning Pow-wow recordings.
He appears in concert with his wife, Kim, as Eddy & Kim Lawrence, on standup bass. He also is the lead guitarist with the River Mohawk Band, a popular band from the Territory of Akwesasne.
