AboutEisley formed in 1997 when Sherri DuPree , Chauntelle DuPree and a childhood friend started practicing music together after having been inspired by bands like The Beatles and Radiohead. Younger sister Stacy DuPree desperately wanted to join but wasn't allowed to because Chauntelle and Sherri thought she was too young. Because of this she write a song entitled Michael's song, which centered around a family friend of the DuPree's who tried to commit suicide. This showed Chauntelle and Sherri she still had the skill to become a band member even at her age. Chauntelle and Sherri were impressed, especially by her writing, and let her in.

The band, now with their brother Weston DuPree as the drummer and friend Amy Whittacker as the bassist, started writing miscellaneous songs out of their bedroom. The band gained a lot of performing experience by playing in the coffee shop their parents ran called Brewtones Coffee Galaxy, opening for various bands with the songs they had written. They started out known as the Towheads, meaning blonde heads, and began to develop a decently sized local fanbase.

During the band's unsigned years they recorded two EPs, titled EP 1 and EP 2. They also wrote various other songs which would soon become fan favorites, such as Wings And Windows and Becoming You. They would post the lyrics to these songs on their old website then called Mosseisley.com, which you can still visit using the Wayback Machine (You can find a lot of cool information about the band with it, but sadly I cannot link to it. You should still check it out regardless, though).

Sometime in 2001 Amy Whittacker left the band and was replaced by Jonathan Wilson, who you can see in the Telescope Eyes music video.

Soon after the band would be discovered by Warner. Bros, who would then sign them to their sub label, Record Collection. They would end up releasing the Laughing City EP. A few months later they would be moved to Reprise Records and release the Marvelous Things EP. They would also embark on their first major tour with Coldplay.

In 2004 the band would start working on their first full-length, Room Noises. This is also the time when the Laughing City forum would start taking off. On the forum various Eisley fans and even the Eisley members occasionally would discuss subjects related to the band, such as various old demos or perhaps a show they recently went to.

In 2005 Room Noises was released. Many of the songs on Room Noises are older songs re-recorded. Others are fan favorites that were frequently played live before production. Some songs mentioned in the production of Room Noises though never made it, such as a song titled Good Times that seemed to be a strong contender. Many demos of the songs that appeared on Room Noises/had a chance to appear on Room Noises found themselves onto the internet. One of those is the cult favorite Eisley - Lost at Sea Demo which was seemingly released by Boyd. The rest I'm not so sure on how they got released to the public, but considering some of them didn't even make it to the full-length, I'm guessing they were leaked.
