AboutHectór Acosta was born Hectór Elpidio Acosta Restituyo in the Dominican Republic on May 23 of 1968(?). He began by singing in church. But after he entered a singing contest for a local radio station, he began recording and playing. Initially he was in the band Los Gentiles. Then he was discovered by the manager of the famous band Los Toros. It was there that he most likely obtained his nickname El Torito (the Little Bull).
After singing as the frontman for Los Toros for years, he formed his own band and set out on his own several years ago.
He has released over a half dozen albums, all of which contain primarily bachata and merengue songs. Two of his which are currently receiving a lot of airplay are Aprenderé and Amorcito Enfermicito. Another of his songs, O Te Vas O Me Voy (not to be confused with another song of his, Me Voy) is a personal favorite though less well-known. It is a powerful anthem of a man offering an ultimatum to a former lover in a failed relationship: either you go or I go, but the way things are cannot continue.
He possesses a rich and masculine voice, one that is also full of much feeling. Many of his songs are about either difficult or even ruined relationships, or about one who is the love of his life. This is not surprising when you consider that he remained unmarried for many years of his career, which dates back to around 1980, and also consider that he did finally marry in 2011.
He also shows evidence of both his gospel roots and his deep faith, most notably in his song Todo Se Lo Debo a El (I owe everything to Him), a simple but powerfully moving song of gratitude and recognition of the fact that he owes everything to God.
Although he is already quite successful and fairly well known in the Latin music scene, I believe that he has the type of talent that will elevate him to an even higher spot in Latin and world music with the passage of time, as his is a truly unique and very entertaining talent.

You have easily obtained a spot on my short list of favorite singers and musicians.
