In 2003 the internationally respected Hip–Hop Connection Magazine predicted that: "When Australian Hip-Hop breaks out, these chaps will be spearheading the campaign. No silly gimmicks, no wack beats, no nonsense Hip-Hop." In 2006, their words ring eerily true.

Following the success of 2003's gold certified 'The Calling', which also has the honour of being Australian Hip-Hop's highest selling release to date, Hilltop Hoods have emerged as the undisputed leaders of a burgeoning local scene, and won the respect of Hip-Hop's international underground.

The story of the Hoods' long grinding road to success has been told before but in an age where Major Label hype and farcical pop divas rule supreme, it's worth repeating again.

In the early 1990s emcees Suffa, Pressure and DJ Debris, three lads from the hills of Adelaide, met while attending high school. Inspired by the classic styles of Eric B and Rakim and Public Enemy, as well as local heroes Def Wish Cast and AKA Brothers, the trio conspired to add their own chapter to Hip-Hop's canon. The Hilltop Hoods were born.

From day one the Hoods made a conscious decision to represent their world, their lives and their country. When Hip-Hop heads dropped the crew's first EP (Back Once Again) on their turntables in 1997 they heard broad Australian accents, nimble flows and a smorgasbord of stunning beats.

Since then the Hoods have refined their approach through three full length albums—A Matter of Time (1999), Left Foot, Right Foot (2001) and The Calling (2003)—all the while never abandoning the unique sound they created in the Adelaide Hills as Hip-Hop loving youngsters.

Over beats that draw from the best musical traditions of funk, jazz and soul, Suffa and Pressure display an instinctive rhyme chemistry that is as tight as it is intense.

The Hoods infuse a classic Hip-Hop sound with an ethos that is innovative and fearless. Avoiding both staid conservatism and self indulgent experimentalism their inspirational sound has been embraced far beyond Hip-Hop's loyal underground.

When the heads of rock fans, dance music devotees, and even casual radio listeners all nod in unison to the Hoods infectious beats it's no wonder the boys have racked up a number of prestigious industry awards and secured two appearances on Triple JJJ's successful Hottest 100 series.

    Live, the Hoods are untouchable.

A rigorous touring schedule, including standout spots at the Big Day Out (in 2005 and 2006), Splendour In The Grass and Falls Festivals, and well received support slots for Hip-heavyweights like Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, has seen the recognised as one of Australia's hottest live acts by press, industry insiders and fans alike.

The Hoods have recently released a DVD entitled 'The Calling Live,' which features the freshest footage culled from two years of touring, and includes an extensive range of special features and additional footage designed to bring the Hoods raucous live experience to lounge rooms around the Hip-Hop nation and beyond.

Currently, the Hoods have retreated to Cross Bred Production Studios in Adelaide to work their fourth LP "The Hard Road" due to be released in March 2006.
