Jack in the Pulpit - Official BIO...

If it was the Quarry Men for Lennon and McCartney, it would be the church youth band for Gant and Willis, where the groundwork would be laid for a friendship that would take them both to great heights in their musical career.
In the fall of 2002 Wesley Gant and Trey Willis, who had been friends for several years, met together for a jam session with a borrowed amp, an electronic drum kit, and dreams about defying the odds and going all the way. What resulted was a small home recording of three original songs that got them a spot in an upcoming Battle of the Bands where they took first place and were introduced to producer, Mike Thompson.

In March of 2003 the band adopted their name at the inspiration of an intriguing poisonous flower and went into Houston's famed Sugar Hill Studios to record a three-song EP that would sell over 500 copies, put them on numerous radio stations, and win Jack in the Pulpit the grand prize in a national competition that sent them to Hollywood, CA to record their debut album, "Life Goes On", released in the summer of 2004.

Over the course of the bands brief but progressive history Jack in the Pulpit has gained independent radio promotion throughout the country and has been spotlighted on a number of podcasts and other internet-based programs throughout the world, all without the assistance of any label or management agency. JITP has turned the heads of many industry professionals who are keeping a close eye on the band, and with their most current work scheduled for the studio in early 2006, they will surely deliver. Especially adding into the mix a fresh line-up with Brandon Allen on Bass, and the addition of Thao Tran on Guitar, one of the most innovative guitarists on the Houston scene, and brains behind another local favorite, The Methods.

With a rock solid rhythm section, sparkling melodies and passion-filled vocal performance, the raw talent of Jack in the Pulpit becomes a consistent trademark in the studio or on the stage as the band rips through one powerful tune after another. While the stream of success so far is flattering, and very much exciting, Jack in the Pulpit is about more than interviews and record sales. It would not be unusual to find the boys backstage in prayer during the moments before a concert. In Wesley's words, "It doesn't make much sense to have a microphone in front of you and not have anything to say. If I can make a difference in someone's life through lyrics or whatever, that's worth more to me than being some big rock star."

There's no doubting that Jack in the Pulpit has what it takes, and a little bit more, and will continue to reach out to more fans, but this is an unscripted journey that we all should enjoy following.
