AboutJimmy Ruffin was an American soul singer and the elder brother of David Ruffin of The Temptations. He was born in 1936 in Collinsville, Mississippi, to Eli and Ophelia Ruffin. As a child, he and his brother sang with gospel group the Dixie Nightingales. After leaving the army in 1964, Jimmy was offered the chance to replace Elbridge Bryant in The Temptations, before the opportunity went to his brother David instead. After this, Jimmy pursued a solo career. He had several hits between the 1960s and 1980s; his most successful being the Top 10 hits What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted and Hold On To My Love.
