I sat down on the steps of the old church

A black ant crossed the desert of the steps
He was only travelling through
I crushed him beneath my shoe
I did it, I admit it was an evil thing to do
The church above me didn't seem to notice

People suffer more than ants of birds or dogs
Or any other thing

And even though they know they're going to sink they have to swim
Knowing that eventually they will go under

I was sitting on the steps of the old church
And the sun came softly out
Its light spun through the fog
