Lââm (real name Lamia) was born on September 1, 1971 in Paris, France. From a French & Tunisian family, her parents divorced : she was placed in a residence at 6. Her father took care of her siblings & her mother left. She only saw her mother twice in 20 years.
As an abandoned girl, she became interested in music. At 15, she was placed in another residence, in Bourges & became a backing vocalist for an orchestra. Then she joined the Atelier Chanson in Paris & worked as a waitress. During a hip-hop evening, she met 2 musicians : seduced by her voice, they met Hervé Benhamou & Lamia signed to his label Heben Music.
She released her first single in 1996, "J'Ai Le Feeling", but it got little success. In 1998, she was a backing vocalist for Mariah Carey & Michael Bolton. The same year, she released the single "Chanter Pour Ceux Qui Sont Loin De Chez Eux", cover of Michel Berger's song. The single sold 1.5 million copies & Lââm received her first diamond disc in January 1999. In 2000, she joined Les Enfoirés, for the association Les Restos du Coeur. She also joined another singer, Princess Erika, for Les Ailes De L'Espoir.
Lââm released her second album Une Vie Ne Suffit Pas in 2001, selling 100,000 copies in 2 months. After a long tour & the lead role of Luc Plamondon's musical "Cindy", she came back with her third album in 2004.
