AboutWho knew that Lesley Gore (the great singer of "It's My Party and I'll Cry If I Want To") recorded "Chapel of Love."? I certainly did not until I came across it on YouTube. And then I found this CD on Amazon. Not only does it have "Chapel of Love" but it has such other gems as Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again," an excellent cover of Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher" (which is much better than Rita Coolidge's tepid version of the song years ago), Carole King's "It's Too Late," the Bee Gees "You Don't Know What It's Like," and Olivia Newton-John's "You're the One That I Want." All of these songs are right in Gore's wheelhouse and she delivers. It was a revelation listening to her performance of these songs. This CD cost six bucks or something like that. It is well worth every penny. Any Lesley Gore fan should be ecstatic to have this album. If nothing else these performances confirm Gore's place as one of the premiere female singers of the 1960s. This is on the Madacy label. In the past I have purchased Madacy CDs and found the sound quality to be subpar. That is not the case with this CD.
