Minus the Bear is a Seattle band with five releases to their credit. Their newest project, an album called Menos el Oso, was released on August 23, 2005 on the label Suicide Squeeze. The singles "Hooray" and "Houston We Have Uh-Oh..." have been featured on popular music websites such as PureVolume. The band features ex-members of Botch, Kill Sadie, and Sharks Keep Moving. Their sound involves a mix of Pele-esque guitar-taps and electronics, with a Don Cab-esque sophistication of composition.

Minus the Bear is known for their amusing song titles, with examples including "Hey, Wanna Throw Up? Get Me Naked," "Monkey!!! Knife!!! Fight!!!," and "Lemurs, Man, Lemurs". Despite this light humor, the band's music is quite technical. The name Minus the Bear comes from the famed TV show B.J. and the Bear — minus the bear.

On January 2, 2006 Matt Bayles, keyboardist and producer for Minus the Bear, announced that he was leaving the band in order to focus on record production work. His last performance with the band was on January 28, 2006. Matt Bayles wrote on his homepage that he would be replaced by Alex Rose, an Engineer on Menos el Oso.
