Miranda Sex Garden took root and blossomed when Katherine Blake and two girlfriends, all students at the Purcell School of Music, were discovered singing 16th-century madrigals on a London street. Barry Adamson, formerly the bass player for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, asked the trio to sing on the soundtrack of the movie Delusion. When they were signed to England's Mute Records soon thereafter, one of the most extraordinary bands in rock was born. The later addition of Ben Golomstock on guitar and Trevor Sharpe on percussion added a soundwave of ferocity that is tempered by the filigrees of Blake on recorder and Donna McKevitt on violin. The most recent album by Miranda Sex Garden, Fairytales of Slavery, is a psychosexual dream factory in which sado-masochistic themes are hinted at as metaphors for the pleasure/pain of emotional/sexual relationships. Lyrics aside, the Mirandas are mainly interested in creating music that evokes a seductive garden of earthly delights, full of color and chaos. The Fairytales of Slavery Tour was a blur of color and chaos as well. Katherine and Ben talk about their lives in and out of the Garden.
