Despite forming in Southampton late in 2000 Not Katies beginnings are four years previous in east surrey where Luke and Ewan met at the beginnings of their higher education. The pair bonded over a love of Punk and Rock, becoming good friends and proceeded to spend the next few years jamming in a succession of 'Half bands' of the sort that young musicians are fond of. However any projects were put on a hiatus of sorts when Ewan moved to Southampton to study film at degree level (a degree which each member of Not Katies actually hold!).

A year later Luke and Ewan were again jamming as Luke began his degree, a course on which Dave and Rich were also studying. The latter were also flirting with the idea of forming a band, having a number of unsuccessful jams (one of which ironically enough was with Neil who would join Not Katies in the autumn of 2002).

Having all met through their degree they aimed to create a four piece that would take the band seriously and produce music that they would be proud to play, so late in 2000 'Lassie come home' were formed. Despite initial concerns as to whether the members were compatible as personalities and in a creative sense the band thrived, united by the same drive and ambition. Then the real hard work began!

The band continued to balance the demands of their degree courses with the demands of the band and through energetic live performances and a warm reception to early demos 'Lassie come home' began to play further a field and earned them selves a number of high profile support slots with such acts as 'Voodoo glow skulls'. The band soon changed their name to 'Not Katies' and early in 2002 began their relationship with one of the UK's premier punk labels 'Deck Cheese Records'.

With a fast growing reputation and expanding fan base preparation had begun on what would eventually become the bands debut album 'At every turn', released later in the summer of 2002. In support of this release Not Katies had tours with label mates 'Fletcher' and US punks 'The Lonely Kings' along with a number of supports with international acts such as 'Good Charlotte', 'Something Corporate' and 'Strung Out' led to the band coming to the attention of Cable tv channel 'Trouble Tv' and being offered a slot on their 'Music recorded for..' alongside fellow UK acts 'Thisgirl', 'Sikth' and 'Sugar Coma' among others.

It was around this time that Rich should ditch the guitar and become an orthodox front man, however, the loss of a guitar meant the music lost a lot of it's depth and power which led the band to be on the look out for new guitarist. They didn't have to search for long as friend and fan of the band Neil, guitarist in Southampton Alt.Rockers 'Chin Music', was available as he wanted to commit to music full time.

Neil's introduction was at a sold out Highbury Garage as the band supported 'Good Charlotte', and continued throughout the rest of the year as 'Not Katies' hit the roads of the UK supporting '4ft Fingers' and their debut music video for '2 halves of 2' (a success on 'P-Rock TV')!

And now in 2003 the Not Katies have a settled line up and having completed their first headlining UK tour are hardened road warriors with more desire to get on stage than ever before!
