As part of the Stockholm-based trio Peter Bjorn and John, singer/guitarist Peter Morén helped bring the luminous sounds of Swedish pop to a universal audience in the 2000s. The band's third album, Writer's Block, firmly catapulted his songwriting contributions into the spotlight, due in large part to the infectious single "Young Folks." Following a lengthy bit of touring, Morén began premiering solo material at intimate New York venues in 2007, focusing on music that was considerably more folksy and low-key than his work with Peter Bjorn and John. This resulted in Moréns first solo effort The Last Tycoon, released in 2008.

In 2010, Peter Morén released I Spåren av Tåren, the second solo album of his career and the first written and performed entirely in Swedish. Well-received in Swedish press, critics raved, praising Morén for his soulful combination of lyrics with references to Swedish literature, culture and history mixed with American roots of rockabilly and R'n'B, including Swedish interpretations of classics by the Everly Brothers and Smokey Robinson. The use of Swedish language and American musical influences resulted in an album that was more personal and unlike anything Morén had previously done, showcasing his many talents as a musician, songwriter, producer and performer.

Pyramiden is a continuation of I Spåren av Tåren, and while it builds on the same musical platform, it is even more eclectic, more modern and pop-influenced, inspired by both indie, new wave, folk and disco. At the core of the music is the strong melody-language characteristic of Morén's songwriting, at times reminiscent of his work with Peter Bjorn and John. On Pyramiden, Morén's lyrics move slightly away from the Swedish roots and heritage heard on I Spåren av Tåren, and into a larger take on the world, mixing humor with criticism of both society and the self, flowing between ethics and morality (or lack thereof) in personal philosophical observations of sadness and joy, politics and religion, without fully falling into either category. Like the previous record, Pyramiden is produced by Morén and Tobias Fröberg, and was recorded by Conny Wall at Gig Studios in Stockholm, Sweden.

Backing up the inventive and multifaceted arrangements are musicians who have also played in Morén's touring band, such as Lars Skoglund (Lykke Li, Laakso), Ola Hultgren (Ane Brun, Loney Dear), Sara Wilson (First Floor Power, Jenny Wilson), Per "Ruskträsk" Johansson (Oddjob, Goran Kajfes) and harpist Stina Hellberg. The lead single "Odyssén" is written and produced by Morén and Peter Ågren (Tove Styrke, Amplifetes.) Pyramiden is set for release in September 2012.
