Love that man! The driving force behind Highway Star, Smoke On The Water, and a zillion other rock anthems, Roger David Glover played bass for Deep Purple from 1970-1973. He later played bass with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, as well as doing some producing, and re-joined Deep Purple in 1984 for the Perfect Strangers album, re-forming the "Mach II" line-up of Purple, with bandmates Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, and Ian Paice. This line-up of Purple has made several CDs since, as well as touring extensively and putting out blockbuster live concert CDs.

For the record, the "Mach II" line-up of Deep Purple was the most famous version of Deep Purple ever, largely because of the super hit Smoke On The Water, appearing first on Machine Head in 1972, and then live on Made In Japan in 1973. One reviewer even referred to SOTW as THE rock anthem of the 20th century. . . and Roger came up with the title of the song, on a napkin, no less! Three cheers for Roger Glover and Deep Purple.
