AboutBorn in 1984, and raised in East Stroudsburg, PA, Shelby Starner was an American pop singer. Always interested in music she started writing her own music at the age of eleven. Her music was picked up by Warner Brothers, and in 1997 she signed on for multiple album recordings with the company. Her first album From in the Shadows was released in 1999, an album written almost entirely by Shelby, with only two songs being cowritten.
In 2000 she attempted to get out of her contract with Warner Brothers after she was unhappy with the recordings for her second album, recordings that remain unreleased.
Around the same time her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and Shelby decided to focus on her family and put the music on hold. Not long after she entered treatment for Bulimia, which she struggled with until her death on June 22, 2003. She died, at the age of 19, from an electrolyte imbalance directly related to her bulimia.
