AboutSteffani Bennett is a successful back-up and session singer, songwriter, and a television composer. Originally from Massachusetts, Steffani has had a love of music since birth.
Born to two musicians, she began studying piano and dance at age 5 and went on to study classical voice and jazz technique until graduating from New England Conservatory in Boston. She went to New York to develop her sound in the early 90s. Since then she has been writing and performing in NYC and up the East Coast, and has performed on countless recordings, demos and records, developing a reputation as a great session singer, musician, and songwriter.
Steffani was the Grand Prize Winner of the 1998 USA Songwriting Competition, and also a finalist in the 1999 Unisong Contest. Her debut CD, "I'm The Girl", was chosen as a "TOP 12 DIY" (self-release) in Performing Songwriter Magazine. She has been in Broadway Workshops and has sung back-up regularly with Lesley Gore, Kate Pierson (B52's), Mary Wilson, Keith Diamond, Al B Sure!, and Wayne Brady, to name a few. Recently, she was part of the PBS special "Hey La, the Girl Groups are Back", featuring the great Motown/Phil Spector acts of the 60's. For 5 years she co-ran a music company, Raw Sugar Music, and composed tracks for NBC, FOX, the 2000 World Series, the 2000 Olympics, and the 2002 MTV Music Awards. And as a singer/songwriter, Steffani has played in venues with the likes of Jesse Harris, Greta Gaines, Rebecca Martin, Mike Errico, Rachel Sage, and Jen Chapin. She is also a staff writer for the non-profit organization "Songs of Love", which writes and records personalized songs for terminal and chronically ill children.
In '05 Steffani recorded with world renowned musicians Nir Z (drummer on John Mayer's "Room For Squares", Genesis, Jason Mraz), Nunzio Signore (Brian McKnight, Angie Stone, Destiny's Child), and Peter Calo (Carly Simon, Spiderman the musical) for her EP, "Worth The Wait".
She is now living in Boston, where she recently sang and wrote for American Idol finalists Will Makar and Ayla Brown's projects. The song "I Wonder", co-written with Jim for Will's record, was chosen as the state of Texas' class of 2008's song.
In 2010 Steffani added Kate Pierson of the B52's to her back-up resume.
