    Lyrics

He was sittin' there, his brush in hand
Paintin' waves as they danced upon the sand
With every stroke, he brought to life
The deep blue of the ocean against the mornin' sky
And I asked him if he only painted ocean scenes
He said for twenty dollars, I'll paint you anything.

Could you paint me a Birmingham?
Make it look just the way I planned
A little house on the edge of town
Porch goin' all the way around
Put her there in the front yard swing
Cotton dress, make it early spring
For awhile she'll be mine again
If you can paint me a Birmingham.

He looked at me, with knowing eyes
Then took a canvas from a bag there by his side
Picked up a brush, and said to me,
"Son just where in this picture, would you like to be?"
And I said if there's any way you can
Could you paint me back into her heart again?

Could you paint me a Birmingham?
Make it look just the way I planned
A little house on the edge of town
Porch goin' all the way around
Put her there in the front yard swing
Cotton dress make it, early spring
For awhile she'll be, mine again
If you could paint me a Birmingham.

    Paint me a Birmingham
Make it look just the way I planned
A little house on the edge of town
Porch goin' all the way around
Put her there in the front yard swing
Cotton dress, make it early spring
For awhile she'll be mine again
If you could paint me a Birmingham.

    Paint me a Birmingham... oh

when I was 10 years old I heard this song I and I loved it very much and it always love it. Every time I sing it I fill like a superstar because it has helped me throughout my life and it has helped me get a lot of friends and they have always stayed by my side no matter how mad I feel they are always there for me

hes talking about how he wishes he had a small town life that was simple and be with the woman he loves.

The Birmingham has nothing to do with that city because in the song tracy says "can you paint me a birmingham" so its not the city its a townhouse

My Mom heard me singing it and she told me I sounded like Tracy. AHHH Come on how funny is that? But I have alllllways loved this song ever since I first heard it. I even like the version " Make me a Sexy Man" LOL they played it on the radio and I will never forget it.

This song is so romantic/sad/heart-warming {Which I guess is another word for romantic}/heart-breaking {Another word for sad?} and still in good taste. I love how it's written!! "For awhile she'll be mine again
If you can paint me a Birmingham." It's almost as if he's saying, Paint me a lie... make me live in the past... let me live in that illusion for a little bit longer.... let her be mine again. Really sad song though u.u

JBmack had it right with what this song is about. Although someone else said it was about a small town... Birmingham is not a small town. It is however a southern city that everyone should know and thats why I beleive that city was selected for the song.

i love the part where he goes "could u paint me bak into her arms again" it almost makes you wonder how second chances could turn out and how wonderful if it were as simple as a paint brush and some paint.
