Every band's history is pretty much the same story, but even so, come along on a mystical journey with us as we tell you all about how we came to be your favorite band. September 21st 2004 marked the 4 year anniversary of Wester. The band started back in the fall of 2000. We were four friends who got together in a garage and played cover songs all day long, not well I might add. We did it all: Blink, Lit, MxPx, Josie and The Pussycats, you name it we covered it. We did this for months until one day we decided to write a song of our own. Never did we really think we were going to take this "band" seriously, we were just messing around and having a good time. However, it didn't take long for us to realize that we loved playing music together. For the next few months we took a stab at writing some of our own tunes, basically molded after our influences. In May of 2001 we decided to head on down to For The Record in Orange, Ca to get our 5 songs on CD. At the time we were very excited about what we had done, but I think every band probably goes through that phase at one point, where you think everything you write is amazing, when in reality it probably isn't. So with our very first recording and a few small coffee shop shows under our belt, Wester was slowly taking shape. Unfortunately, 2 months later in July of 2001 we ended up losing our bassist Kyle due to personal and artistic differences. But it wasn't long before we called on our good friend Clayton to take on the duties of bass player. Clayton proved to be an excellent player and an overall great band member so we knew we had made the right choice. Sooo after the member change, we continued to play local Orange County shows and wrote a few more songs, but I think we were still searching for our sound. In June 2002, we hit the studio once again and recorded a few songs including "Where Hearts Go To Die." To us, this was a big step in our progression as a band because it was the first time we could all step back and say "hey, that's not too bad." Now keep in mind, this was our own opinions, feel free to think whatever you'd like but this is my story so shut up. Since then we have been molding and evolving a sound that we are all very happy with and really enjoy playing. All this brings us to now, October 2004. We pressed and released a six song EP in March of 2003 which we sold at shows and at various local record stores and websites. We never expected to sell all 1,000 of the cd, but in September '04, we were able to officially announce it was "out of print." At the moment, we are writing and demoing for our first full length album. Now, before we all get to excited, we have no idea when it will come out, who will put it out, or if it will come out at all...but dammit, we're gonna record it anyway. 2003 and 2004 were amazing years for the band. No we didn't get a huge record deal, we didn't tour the country, but we were together almost every single weekend playing a show somewhere or recording in the studio. Hell, we even got to play one date at Warped Tour! Who knew! So although we have not accomplished everything with this band that we plan to at some point, we've already come further than we ever thought possible and we're having the time of our lives. A big thank you to anyone who has come out to a show, bought our cd, or just said "you guys rock." It means a lot. Yes, these last couple of years have been great, but who knows what the future holds? Just 2 months ago in August of '04, we finished the recording of our first full length album entitled "Danger Music" which will be released October 19th on Top Notch Records. We have very high hopes for the album, so we'll just have to wait and see what becomes of us. So in closing of this novel, where we stand at this point is Ryan, Clayton, Brian, and Kris. Four best friends who love nothing more than to be around each other and play music together. It's more than a band to us, it's our passion, it's what we live for. If one day we are fortunate enough to travel the states or make a few bucks from this, then yay. If not, it was a whole lot of fun anyway. Fuckin A.
