AboutCharles Aznavour (real name Shahnour Varenagh Aznavourian) was born on May 22, 1924 in Paris, France. His parents were Armenian. He grew up in a restaurant, where his father was a singer & started to love music. In 1933, he joined a theatre school & played some roles in films. In 1941, he met a composer, Pierre Roche, they worked for Édith Piaf, who encouraged Charles to sing. His beginnings were not brilliant but the audience like him. In the late 50's, he got successful. Following albums & tours, Charles got known in France, then became famous in the United States, Turkey, Africa & Russia, selling millions of albums. Charles married 3 times & had 6 children. He played in films directed by Truffaut & Chabrol, showing his face in 80 films. In 1997, French President Jacques Chirac decorated Charles "Officier De La Légion D'Honneur", making him one of the best French artists.
