AboutLos Angeles vocalist Colbie Caillat is a singer-songwriter with songs based on a humble approach; although her music is acoustic, the arrangements go much deeper, culling from classical folk, jazz, and pop.

Caillat, who was born in California (May 28, 1985), grew up in Malibu and other cities in Ventura County. As a child, she was surrounded by music. Her father, Ken Caillat, is most notably remembered for Co-Production and Engineer credits on Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours", among others. Every sound of Colbie's soulful style unfolds a story of her many travels through life.

Colbie started her singing debut at an early age of 11 with special performances around her house. Within weeks she ventured out to talent shows and school performances. Her parents, who would call her "little bird," would wake up in the early morning to find her singing her heart out. With the help of her parents, she was charmed into the idea that she had singing potential and began lessons with a vocal coach.

At the age of fifteen, something happened to Colbie that would change her life completely - she met Michael Blue, a producer and engineer located in Westlake Village, Ca. At the time, Michael, having worked with artists such as Augustana, Five For Fighting and Carrie Underwood, was working on Runway music for St. John Knit's seasonal clothing lines. To cut a long story short, Michael took Colbie under his wing and began to use her voice on the tracks he was producing. Within the first season he knew she was something amazing and started producing and collaborating on additional songs with Colbie. Then, at the age of 19, Colbie wrote her first song on the guitar, and she has never stopped since.

Around 2006, after failing to get a spot, having auditioned for American Idol twice, Colbie got her first glimpse of fame and recognition on MySpace, becoming the #1 artist who then wasn't signed to a record label. But due to her MySpace popularity and exposure, it led Caillat to get a record deal with Universal Republic.

In 2007, Caillat's debut album Coco was released and certified 2× Platinum by the RIAA with shipments to U.S. retailers of 2,000,000 units.[11] The album's first single, Bubbly, peaked at #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Pop 100. It also topped the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks and Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks charts for 19 and 14 weeks, respectively. The single itself was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on December 13, 2007, with sales of more than 2.6 million downloads in the US.
The second single from Coco, Realize, was released on January 23, 2008, peaking at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming her second Top 20 hit in the US.

In October 2008, Colbie joined forces with Taylor Swift to co-write and duet on the song titled Breathe, which was included on Swift's second album, Fearless.

On January 13, 2009, Caillat sang a duet with Jason Mraz, called Jason Mraz. Caillat's second album, Breakthrough was released in August 2009. "Breakthrough" debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 106,000 copies, becoming her first album to debut at the top and an improvement of the first week sales of her debut album, which started at number five with only 51,000 copies.
The first single, Falling For You, was released on June 29, 2009. The "lilting" mid-tempo ballad "features an instantly catchy chorus and toe tapping melody," as defined by Melinda Newman of HitFix. It achieved chart success in the US, reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, her second highest charting single and her highest debut with 118,000 first-week downloads, spending fourteen weeks at #2 on the Adult Pop Songs and topping the Adult Contemporary chart. Elsewhere. The song peaked within the Top 20 spot on the music charts globally.
The album's second single, I Never Told You was released on February 16, 2010, reaching #48 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was more successful on the Adult Pop Songs, where it peaked at #3, and on the Adult Contemporary, reaching #11. Caillat was later recognized as BMI's songwriter of that year.

She continued to expand her knowledge by working with some of Los Angeles' singer-songwriters, learning from artists like Jason Reeves and Tim Fagan. Jason Reeves has since co-written many of Colbie's songs.

Her third studio album, All Of You, was released on July 6, 2011 in the US through Universal Republic. The theme running through "All Of You" is (based on) the ups and downs of relationships, most significantly Caillat's then boyfriend Justin Young. She explained that "He was in my band for two years before we noticed that we like each other, I wrote most of this album about us, our ups and downs. All the songs are about life experiences, so I guess this record is more grown up, with a somewhat wiser perspective."
"All Of You" peaked at #6 on the US Billboard 200 with first week sales of 70,000 copies. And managed to top the Digital Albums Chart. The album's lead single, I Do, was released on February 7, 2011 and was a success, debuting at #23 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song gathered positive reviews from music critics. The second single, Brighter Than The Sun was released on May 17, 2011, and reached #51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
What If was used as a promotional single and was included in the movie Letters To Juliet [2010] (movie) soundtrack.
The third and final single off "All For You" was Favorite Song (feat. Common) released on May 8, 2012.

On September 30, 2014, Colbie released her fourth album, Gypsy Heart [2014] through the record label move transition to Republic Records. Hold On was classified as the album's first single internationally, however was a non-album single in the US.
Try was released as the album's second single worldwide and lead single in US on June 9, 2014.
Some other promotional lyric-videos off "Gypsy Heart" were Live It Up, If You Love Me Let Me Go and Never Gonna Let You Down. The album debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200 for chart dated October 18, 2014, with 16,000 copies sold in the first week.

In 2016, she came out with an acoustic album titled, The Malibu Sessions.

From 2018 to 2020, Caillat along with her then fiancé Justin Young formed a country band called Gone West but have since disbanded.
