ÜberJoseph Dennis Nii Noi Quarcoo, popularly known as De Joe Quarcoo is a Southern urban thinker and singer-songwriter of Ghanaian descent. He is a MINDS & MasterCard Scholar and a YALI Fellow with a passion for African youth and cities. De Joe is a unique talent with a dynamic background in Social Psychology, Critical Human Geography, and Climate Change with a Southern perspective. His passion is centered on the realization of inclusive, climate-safe, and sustainable cities, and opportunity creation for youth. De Joe loves collaborations. His art and eclectic background bring rich diversity to teams.
He identifies as an activist-scholar (an @InsurgentPlanner), situated within the hemmed space of research, policy, and practice. His current project, "Musical Urbanism" is a product of the blend of his musical art, passion as a social justice & climate advocate, and his practice as a Social Psychologist and Southern urban thinker.
His Music & Style
De Joe does conscious music, which evokes deep thoughts and stimulates action. His music is directed in two-fold. First, to enhance the understanding of the ordinary person on the urban and climate evolution of African cities in order to demand inclusion, and contribute to resilient and sustainable remedies. Second, his music is aimed towards the deployment of youth potential and talents.
De Joe's music speaks to contemporary issues in Africa relating to faith, cities, environment, and aspirations. He is all rounded with a flair for pop, soul, folk, and contemporary gospel tunes. His recent release, Southern cities, was recorded in collaboration with the 2020 Cohort of the Southern Urbanism Programme, a very diverse group who come from Ghana, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Djibouti, South Africa, and Italy.

The Musical Urbanism Project
The Musical Urbanism Project is aimed at breaking down the urban and climate phenomenon to the understanding of the ordinary person. The evocative and reflexive lyrics of the songs with their sensational melodies will induce a response that will set the youth in motion.
This project is unfolding and will feature other talents from across Africa and other parts of the world towards urban and climate change sensitization and advocacy to build back better, post Covid-19. Sensitization on Green recovery and Climate Change issues are part of the thematic areas for this project.
