AboutDean Stanley Geyer (born March 20, 1986, in Johannesburg) grew up in a family with two sisters (Jessica and Tatum) in South Africa. Dean moved to Melbourne, Australia at 15 years of age and commenced his schooling by going to Melbourne High School, a select-entry school for boys. Geyer's family have a solid connection to martial arts, with members from previous and current generations gaining 'black belts' in karate. Following family tradition, Dean attained his black belt when he was only 13 years old.
Geyer's interest in music started during his early teens. After some experience in the music scene, Geyer decided to audition for the fourth series of Australian Idol in 2006. He auditioned in his hometown of Balwyn near Melbourne. After singing a commercial pop song, which impressed the judges, Geyer played a self-composed piece called "Nice To Meet You". The song was praised by the three judges, who unanimously sent him through to the Top 100. Continuing through the competition and winning over thousands of fans, Geyer came 3rd against Jessica Mauboy and Damien Leith, just one week away from the grand final.
His music idols are Bon Jovi and Marc Cohn.
After Idol, Dean was signed to Sony BMG and began working on material for his upcoming album.
If You Don't Mean It released on May 7, 2007, was Geyer's first single which peaked at #10 and spent 12 weeks in the Top 50. The song was included on an EP / B-side of the same name.
Geyer's debut and only studio album, Rush was released on May 26, 2007, reaching #7 on the ARIA album music chart. It received mixed reviews with little promotion and no follow up singles. Due to his album's underperformance, Dean was dropped from the Sony label in 2008.
As of 2008, he went into acting with appearances on TV shows and movies such as Ty Harper on Neighbours (from 2008 to 2009). In May 2008, he released the song Unforgettable featured on Neighbours that is available on iTunes and other music streaming services.
Geyer even won the award for that role as "Fave Aussie Hottie" on Nickelodeon's Teen Choice Awards in 2009.
His breakthrough role was in 2012 to 2013 as Brody Weston on the fourth season of Glee [2009] (tv show) alongside Lea Michele as one of her character Rachel's love interests.
