AboutEric Woolfson was born in 1945 in Glasgow, Scotland. He started composing
music in his early teens and at the age of eighteen, moved to London
where he found work as a session pianist. He was quickly signed up by
Andrew Oldham (record producer for the Rolling Stones) as a songwriter
for his newly formed record label 'Immediate'. Woolfson wrote a succession
of songs for such artists as Marianne Faithful, Frank Ifield and Chris Farlowe.

During the following years, Woolfson's songs were recorded by over one
hundred artists both in Europe and America.

In 1975, Woolfson joined forces with record producer Alan Parsons who was
a recording engineer on many Beatles and Paul McCartney albums as well
as having engineered Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon'.

Woolfson soon realised that he and Alan could form a new kind of
collaboration that would allow Parson's engineering skills to be exploited to
the full and at the same time give Woolfson a vehicle for his talents as a
songwriter/lyricist. The Alan Parsons Project was born.

Between 1975 and 1987, ten Alan Parsons project albums were produced
as a result of that collaboration. To date they have sold over 45 million
copies worldwide and they are all still selling in shops around the world
today.

Woolfson was eager to write for musical theatre, and in 1990, a new career
began when his first musical 'FREUDIANA' was premiered in Vienna. The
success of this first work led to Woolfson's second musical 'GAUDI', which
premiered in 1995 and has run for over five years in several German
productions. 'GAMBLER', Woolfson's third musical also premiered in
Germany in 1996 and had a first run of over 500 performances. GAMBLER
has had five productions in Korea, one of which also toured Japan in 2002
(the first time a Korean language production had been staged in this way).
New productions of GAUDI and GAMBLER are planned for 2004/2005.

In 2003 Woolfson completed his magnum opus, POE, and it was released as a studio album called 'POE - More Tales of Mystery and Imagination.' The musical was soon after performed in the history Abbey Road Studios, featuring Steve Balsamo as Poe. The cast album from this brief performance was released in 2009 to coincide with the opening of a new version of the play in Germany.

In April of 2009, Woolfson released "Eric Woolfson Sings the Alan Parsons Project That Never Was", a collection of songs and demos from before, during, and after Eric's work with the Alan Parsons Project.

Eric Woolfson died on December 2, 2009 from kidney cancer in his home in London. He was buried in Glasgow, Scotland.

Released on 18th March 2013, the anniversary of what would have been Eric Woolfson's 68th birthday - 'Somewhere in the Audience' is a selection of music from four of Eric's musicals - Gaudi, Gambler, POE and Dancing Shadows. Vocals have been recorded by leading West End and Broadway performers and three songs from Eric's Dancing Shadows musical are released for the first time.
