'Twas of a rich merchant in London did dwell,
He had but one daughter, few could her excel;
Her name was Diana, scarce fourteen years old,
And she had a large portion of silver and gold.

It happened to be on a fine summer's day,
When the ship of her father sailed into the quay.
Among other fair maids on board she did go
For to view her father's ship and his lovely cargo.

She had not been there but a short space of time
When on a young sailor she placed her mind.
She got into a boat and rowed quickly to the shore
And was seized by a pain that she never felt before.

In a short time after, she asked was he come.
