Song updated, review now!
With a sort of careless swagger,
And a movement half a stagger,
With now and then a kind of angry frown;
With an air that's free and easy,
And "I don't care if I please ye,"
Is the way the Texas cowboy seems in town.

His chappies, made of leather,
Art good for any weather,
His wide-brimmed hat he wears with manly pride;
His spurs they drag and rattle
And remind of running cattle,
His faithful gun hangs ready at his side.

He loves to talk of "trailing,"
With one foot on the railing,
And watch the gentle bar-keep smile and wait;
When he calls for "good, red licker,"
He pours a man's size "kicker,"
And cowboys like him take that licker straight.
He can ride a bucking broncho,
From Austin to the Concho
And never once be pitched into the air;
He will rope a cow or rabbit,
From the force of early habit,
And when he works he never has a care.

But to see him in his glory,
This hero of my story,
Just watch him in a round-up on the plain;
When he's cutting out a "stranger,"
He never thinks of danger,
Nor does he seem to feel the constant strain.

If night should overtake him
It does not move or shake him,
Just so his horse can find a place to graze;
With his saddle for his pillow
He dreams of some fond willow
Where he sat with one he loved in other days.

He can dance the gay bolero,
And make himself a hero,
In the eyes of any senorita fair;
He will meet a girl and love her,
And his pleadings soon will move her,
For he's the boy that anything will dare.
He can take a joke or give it;
His life, 'tis his to live it,
And little does he care for worldly gains;
And as we have his measure,
Let us drink a toast with pleasure
To this daring Texas cowboy of the plains.

के बारे मेंCowboy boasting songs are so numerous and varied that they seem symptomatic. Even as humor ( which is born of the ironical disparity between utterance and reality) they evoke the unequal battle between man and raw nature. Still, laughter and defiance=awareness, that is, of the existential facts-are far better than withdrawal into a world of comfortable fantasy. In these songs there is more artistry than meets the ear. Rich internal rhymes and highly imaginative imagery suggest a good deal of poetic sophistication. (Melody A: Sterling Sherwin and Harry A.
