RólHeidi Montag (born September 15, 1986) is a cast member from the MTV reality television series The Hills and is also an aspiring singer.
In the summer of 2005, MTV began filming the lives of Laguna Beach cast member Lauren Conrad and her college friends for her spin-off reality show, The Hills. Montag's reality TV career began with a few appearances on season two of MTV's Laguna Beach. Montag's friendship with Conrad led to a featured role in The Hills, which premiered on May 31, 2006.
The synopsis of the show evolved around Montag sharing an apartment with Conrad while studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. Montag left the Fashion Institute in the fall of 2005 when she was hired as an intern at Bolthouse Productions. According to Montag, she dropped out because she "did not find the school challenging". Within two years, Montag was promoted from intern to event planner at Bolthouse and has no plans to return to fashion school.
As for music, beginning from February 2007, Montag started working on recording her debut album signed with Warner Bros., due to her popularity and exposure from "The Hills."
On February 5, 2008, Montag's first single, Higher received an online-only release on iTunes. Along with the single, the accompanying video shot by boyfriend, Spencer Pratt, was also available to purchase. The song and the video received a negative response from websites and readers across the internet, to which Montag responded, "I appreciate people taking the time to write any comment."
On March 25, 2008, Montag released her second single, No More through iTunes.
On June 23, 2008, Heidi released her official first single called Fashion which could be heard on her official MySpace page.
In 2009, 2 EPs were released - Wherever I Am and Here She Is... which featured some songs that were to be included on her upcoming studio album.
After many setbacks with production and leaks of songs years prior, Montag eventually released her debut album titled, Superficial on January 11, 2010. It received mostly mixed to negative reviews from music critics; commenting on while the production seemed fine, Montag's vocal delivery sounded very "manufactured" as suggested by the album's title track. Which resulted in Superficial being deemed a commercial "flop" due to its lackluster commercial performance. Heidi herself agrees that the album failed to even chart as she didn't promote it as much on her part, as well as in reflection to the controversial press surrounding her 'beauty procedures' which happened weeks before the album came out.
Over the years, the album has become a fan-favourite and influenced artists like Slayyyter to create dance-pop, synth-pop/clubbing music.
On September 9, 2019, Montag made her return to music, going in a Christian-pop direction with the single release of Glitter and Glory.
