AboutMarvin, Welch & Farrar was formed in London in July 1970 and comprised Hank Marvin on lead vocals and lead guitar; Bruce Welch on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; and John Farrar on lead vocals and guitar (both lead and rhythm). They alternate who sings lead on each song, depending on the key of the song and vocal range of the singer. Before joining Marvin, Welch & Farrar, John Farrar had been a member of Australian group, The Strangers. After the dissolution of Marvin, Welch, & Farrar, he joined the reunited "The Shadows" and played second-lead guitar and occasionally bass. He later went on to write and produce for Olivia Newton-John. Farrar composed much of the score for the musical, "Grease" and he composed all the music (with Sir Tim Rice writing the words) for the musical, "Heathcliff" - a play based on Shakespeare's "Wuthering Heights" - which starred Sir Cliff Richard.
