OmMinnie Riperton was born on November 8, 1947 in Chicago. At first, she studied classical dancing then sang in her high school choir. At 16, she joined the band The Gems on Chess label, later, she joined The Rotary Connection, she became the leader of this band in 1968. The following year, Minnie married the band's producer (they had a daughter in 1972 : Maya Rudolph) and started working on her first album, Come To My Garden, which was not successful.
Minnie continued singing with bands and became Stevie Wonder's backing vocalist in 1972. Stevie produced her second album, Perfect Angel, in 1974, with her most successful song, "Lovin' You", which was at first a lullaby for her daughter. In 1975, she recorded "Inside My Love", a classical soul music. Unfortunately, in 1976, Minnie learned that she had breast cancer. She fought against illness and recorded a new album before dying on July 12, 1979. She was 31. Her legacy influenced artists like Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera.
