AboutThe Sacramento, CA-based alternative pop band Oleander comprised singer/guitarist Thomas Flowers, guitarist Ric Ivanisevich, bassist Doug Eldridge and drummer Fred Nelson Jr. Named for the poisonous wildflowers growing throughout the Northern California region, the group debuted in 1996 with a self-titled EP issued on the Fine label; the full-length Shrinking the Blob followed in mid-1997, launching the local hit "Down When I'm Loaded." The record's success landed Oleander a deal with Universal, and in early 1999 they resurfaced with February Son. Drummer Fred Nelson left them though, and the band soon recruited Scott Devours. Scott would stay with the band through the release of their third (Unwind, 2001) and fourth (Joyride, 2003) studio albums. However, Devours soon left the band shortly after the release of Joyride in 2003 for band Ima Robot. The band unofficially went on hiatus. Since Devours left the band, singer Thomas Flowers is known to have collaborated with The Black Summer Crush.
