ОStatus Quo is an English rock band that was formed in London in 1962. Originally called The Spectres, the band consisted of Francis Rossi (vocals, guitar), Alan Lancaster (bass), Roy Lynes (keyboards), John Coghlan (drums) and Rick Parfitt (guitar, vocals). Over the years, the band's lineup has changed multiple times with Rossi and Parfitt being the only consistent members.
Status Quo is best known for their unique style of boogie rock, which is characterized by its use of electric guitars, a driving beat and repetitive riffs. The band's early hits included "Pictures of Matchstick Men" (1968), "Down the Dustpipe" (1970) and "Caroline" (1973) which helped establish their reputation as one of the most popular and successful bands of the 1970s.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Status Quo continued to release albums and tour extensively, but their popularity waned somewhat as musical trends shifted. However, they remained a beloved band among their core fanbase and their live shows continued to draw large crowds.
Tragically, Rick Parfitt passed away on December 24, 2016, at the age of 68. Following his death, the band announced that they would continue to tour and record new music in his memory. In 2019, Status Quo released their 33rd studio album "Backbone", which received positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
