ОThe Freeze is an east coast melodic hardcore band that has been a twisted beacon of energy in the punk scene for over 40 years. After their formation in 1978 and release of the "I Hate Tourists" 45 in 1980, they recorded the famous song "This Is Boston, Not LA" which became the title of the now infamous comp. Although thought of as a Boston band they were actually from the Cape Cod area. After forming while still in high school, the band went thru many shifting line-ups all revolving around singer/lyricist Clif Hanger and for most of the bands existence, guitarist and co-writer Bill Close. In 1983 they released the classic hardcore punk Lp "Land Of The Lost", which was followed 2 years later by the equally impressive "Rabid Reaction". Later that same year their record label, Modern Method, folded and The Freeze took a 4 year drift through an ocean of hurt. Surprisingly, when the band returned to the scene in 1990, they were stronger than ever. They began the decade with the release of the "Misery Loves Company" album and kept things rolling. "Crawling Blind", "Freak Show", "Double Dosed", the live album "Five Way Fury", the unreleased and rare song collection "Token Bones" followed. The band ended the 90's with "One False Move", which featured original front and back cover art by the legendary Author/Illustrator Edward Gorey. The Freeze music is driving hardcore punk at it's but always has a solid melodic ring thanks to the unique musical ability of guitarist Bill Close. Clif's lyrics are dark, twisted, unstable, paranoid and at their best are fantasy stories from the scary corners of his mind. 20 years later the wait for a new studio album came to an end. In April of 2019, THE FREEZE released CALLING ALL CREATURES, twelve new tunes written by "Hanger & Close. The album drives hard from start to finish. Hopefully there will be more to come!
