AboutSirima Larufunga was an English multi-instrumentalist & singer-songwriter, born on February 14, 1964 in Isleworth, Middlesex, England & dead on December 7, 1989 in Paris, France. Her mother was French & her father was from Sri Lanka. At 8, Sirima's family left Sri Lanka & went back to England. She became interested in music, playing many instruments : percussion, ukulele, guitar, violin, accordion, recorder, piano... She discovered English pop music & musicals.
At 18, Sirima moved to France. From 1982 to 1987, she was singing in the underground. In 1986, she has been noticed by a producer & saxophonist, Philippe Delettrez. At the same time, Jean-Jacques Goldman was looking for a female artist to sing his duet "Là-Bas" : Sirima was 23 when success came, thanks to that song.
In 1988, Sirima & Philippe Delettrez started working on her first songs, she wanted to create her own universe. Her album A Part Of Me came out on November 17, 1989. She created the album sleeve & imagined her videos. She had a unique voice & sensitiveness, to sing her words.
Sirima's boyfriend was Kahatra Sasorith, a musician. Jealous of her success, Kahatra murdered Sirima, 3 weeks after her album's release. Her young son Kym hoped better...
