AboutSlovo began in the mind and then the studio of former Faithless guitarist, Dave Randall. (click here for Dave Randall's discography)
"Much of slovo's debut album was written in what is now Kylie Minogue's luxury penthouse. At the time it was one of South London's many ageing warehouses occupied by a number of independent musicians, an alternative news production company and a charity from whom I rented a room. At one stage the Aardvark collective moved in and threw some of the best free parties I have been to in the city. Since then, the tenants have been evicted and the warehouse refurbished. My old room on the top floor now forms part of a luxury apartment owned by Kylie and the ground floor has become a Starbucks coffee shop. The story of the warehouse is indicative of the tempo of our times." Dave Randall
Dave decided that he would use voices from around the world to shape a narrative that would, in the West African tradition of 'nommo', name problems and raise questions about the way we are living. The album features friends from the UK, Iceland, the USA, the Palestinian Territories, France, Finland, West Africa and Kurdistan. See the album page for full credits.
Having completed the album in spring 2002, Dave turned his attention to taking the music on the road. He has been able to do so with the help and formidable talents of:
Andrew Phillips – keyboards, guitar, percussion
Lucy Shaw – bass
Andrea Britton – vocals
Ami Rothenberg - drums
Sudha Kheterpal - percussion
Adura Onashile - dance
Front of house sound by Kahya Engler, backline technician Chris Milward.
